Mechanical & Process Engineering
for Water & Infrastructure

We design mechanical and process systems that are buildable, operable and compliant.

We deliver mechanical and process design for safety-critical, regulated environments, producing fully auditable solutions.

From P&IDs and hydraulic calculations through to detailed specifications. Our work supports clean water, wastewater and complex infrastructure schemes, ensuring compliance, traceability and efficient delivery.

We collaborate closely with clients and delivery teams to develop practical, construction-ready solutions that align with programme, operational and regulatory requirements.

Each service area below is delivered as part of one integrated engineering offering. Working alongside our civil, electrical, environmental and ground teams, and informed by real site and operational constraints, we take systems from concept to construction-ready design and into commissioning, supporting AMP8 programmes and regulated infrastructure delivery.

AMP 8

Process & Plant Mechanical Design

We deliver mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment processes, including pumping, screening, filtration, sludge handling and chemical dosing systems. Our focus is on robust, efficient and operable systems that integrate fully with process, civil and electrical design.

By engaging early in the design process, we ensure plant selection, layout and access provisions are optimised for performance, maintenance and safety, reducing rework and operational inefficiency.

Key capabilities:

  • Pumping systems, pipelines and hydraulic design
  • Treatment process plant layout and specification
  • Chemical dosing and sludge handling systems

Water & Wastewater Treatment Process Design

We design and develop treatment processes for clean water and wastewater that meet current and future regulatory standards, translating process requirements into buildable, compliant systems. This includes nutrient removal and advanced treatment to meet tightening discharge consents.

By embedding treatment requirements into the design stage, working from process flow diagrams, mass balance and hydraulic profiling, we reduce late-stage redesign and operational risk.

Key capabilities:

  • Treatment process design, PFDs and P&IDs
  • Mass balance and hydraulic profiling
  • Nutrient removal and advanced treatment
Pipeline Infrastructure

Piping, Layout & Equipment Specification

We develop detailed piping layouts, equipment specifications and general arrangements that define how systems are constructed and installed. Our designs balance performance, footprint, access and cost, giving clarity for procurement and construction teams.

We produce coordinated, construction-ready information that reduces ambiguity and supports efficient delivery on site.

Key capabilities:

  • Piping design, routing and stress considerations
  • Equipment selection and technical specifications
  • General arrangement and detailed design drawings

System Integration & Interfaces

We manage the integration of mechanical systems across complex assets, ensuring alignment between process, electrical, ICA and civil disciplines. Mechanical interfaces are defined, coordinated and resolved early, removing clashes, redesign and installation risk during construction.

Our integrated approach ensures systems operate as part of a fully functioning asset, not just independently.

Key capabilities:

  • Mechanical, electrical and civil interface coordination
  • Plant integration and layout optimisation
  • Clash avoidance and multidisciplinary coordination

Buildability & Construction Support

We embed buildability into mechanical design from the outset, ensuring systems can be installed safely, efficiently and in line with programme constraints. Construction sequencing, temporary works and installation methods are considered alongside design, not after it.

This reduces site risk, shortens installation durations and avoids late-stage redesign or access issues.

Key capabilities:

  • Buildability and constructability reviews
  • Installation sequencing and temporary works
  • Site support during construction and installation

Maintainability, Access & Safety in Design

We design mechanical systems with maintenance, operability and safety as core principles, so assets perform effectively across their lifecycle. Access, lifting, isolation and replacement strategies are built into layouts and aligned with operational and health and safety requirements.

By prioritising maintainability early, we reduce whole-life cost, improve reliability and minimise operational disruption.

Key capabilities:

  • Maintenance access and lifting strategies
  • Safe isolation, inspection and replacement design
  • HAZID / HAZOP and safety-in-design input
Pipeline Infrastructure

Commissioning & Operational Readiness

We support mechanical and process commissioning and handover, ensuring systems are tested, validated and ready for operation. Commissioning requirements are considered during design, improving performance and reducing delays at start-up.

We work with contractors and operators to ensure a smooth transition from construction to operation.

Key capabilities:

  • Commissioning planning and methodology
  • Functional testing and system validation
  • Operational readiness and handover support
EICA & Systems

Asset Performance & Optimisation

We support the optimisation of existing mechanical and process systems, improving performance, reliability and efficiency across operational assets. Our approach combines site data, engineering analysis and operational insight to identify practical improvements.

This enables clients to enhance asset performance and meet AMP8 efficiency drivers without unnecessary capital expenditure.

Key capabilities:

  • Asset performance assessment and optimisation
  • Energy efficiency and system improvements
  • Upgrade and retrofit strategies
Pumping Stations

Temporary Works & Construction Engineering

We design temporary mechanical systems and support construction engineering requirements, ensuring safe and compliant delivery. This includes temporary pumping, bypass systems and construction-phase arrangements needed to maintain operations during upgrades.

By integrating temporary works into the overall design, we remove risk and protect operational continuity.

Key capabilities:

  • Temporary pumping and bypass design
  • Construction-phase system planning
  • Integration with permanent works delivery
NEC3 Design Delivery Model

Digital Engineering & BIM Coordination

We use digital engineering tools and 3D modelling to coordinate mechanical and process systems and improve design accuracy. This enhances visibility of layouts, interfaces and construction constraints before work begins on site.

Digital coordination reduces clashes, improves stakeholder understanding and supports efficient delivery.

Key capabilities:

  • 3D modelling and BIM coordination
  • Digital design reviews and clash detection
  • Integrated multidisciplinary design environments
